TIBET

Tibetan Monks debatingNever has a country (disputed) enchanted so many minds as the stunning, magical, just plain indescribable Tibet. The gorgeous paintbox landscape that seems to continue into forever is literally breathtaking, becoming more and more beautiful as the altitude rises. Tibet is a country of warmth, smiles and adventure, from the bustling pilgrim's heartbeat of Lhasa to the bare, endless expanses of the West's nomad land.

The vibrant, colourful culture embraces travellers of all backgrounds, whether there to explore the ancient temples, watch the sunrise over the Himalayas, or trek along the rooftop of the world. Locals are warm and welcoming and your camera will overload under the burden of attempting to capture the endless memories of the closest Earth gets to the heavens.

Whilst the local diet of tsampa (ground barley flour) mixed with yak's butter tea is certainly an acquired taste, Lhasa is a hive of international cuisine prepared with a Tibetan twist. Architecturally and geographically astounding, from the thriving Buddhist heritage to the miles of gorgeous, mountainous nothing, Tibet is a visual explosion of discovery and escape.

Tibet - Mount EverestWith the powerful influence of the Chinese government ever-present, Tibet is a living juxtaposition of beliefs, lifestyles and future directions. As the tourist industry expands and develops, the TESOL market is also steadily growing with English language studies becoming increasingly more important within local education. Many positions are for volunteers in remote or destitute areas, though other positions within the larger cities such as Lhasa and Shigatse can be found. Teaching in Tibet is far more about the cultural experience than returning home with much money!

For a country better known for its infamy than its culture, Tibet offers an amazing immersion into a world of the past, untouched yet modernising, hotly debated in diplomatic dispute yet colourful, lively and always with that subtle hint of magic.
